I have been proof reading and editing full time since 2016. I mainly work on academic work - theses, dissertations, journal articles and books, but am happy to do anything. I honed my skills over 8.5 years working as a senior tutor / learning advisor for Student Learning Services at the University of Auckland where I taught writing skills and helped students at all levels to improve their written work. Prior to that I tutored in English literature at UoA and had a variety of research assistant / editorial and administrative roles.

Of course, university experience alone did not make me good at proof reading - I also have a very good eye for detail (and a slight, some might say, obsession with spotting errors), excellent language skills, and an 'ear' for good writing. |
I work mainly with students and academics from education, social work, human services, and counseling, but I also have experience in a number of other subject areas, including those in the arts and humanities, nursing, public health, theology, architecture, business and some engineering and science. I am happy to tackle anything, however! I prefer to work with APA referencing, but can work with other styles.
I am a voracious reader and have a Master of Arts (First Class Honours) in English literature from the University of Auckland. When I am not editing or reading, I am cooking. Sometimes I am cooking and editing. Most of my work is powered by the sun.

who needs hone?
I can help you if you:
- have an obsession (like me) with being correct and appreciate the value of a fresh pair of eyes to make sure your work is near perfect;
- don't have an obsession with being correct, but do have a document or website which needs to make the best impression possible (for marks, for sales, for credibility, or professionalism);
- are a student with a thesis, dissertation, reference list, research proposal, or essay that needs proofing and honing (and better marks), or formatting, or a draft that needs feedback to improve your writing;
- are an academic with an article, proposal, reading list, or book that needs editing/proofing and formatting to publisher specifications prior to publication or submission;
- have a website that needs checking for errors, or updating, or even needs to be built! (I made this one);
- have written a book that needs editing or proof reading;
- are a business or organisation with anything (reports, menus, brochures, publicity material, etc.) that needs proof reading, editing, or formatting to a professional standard.
